Andrew had just finished Sixth Form and was interested in looking for work when he heard about the Supported Internship.
He joined the internship in September 2019 but his pathway to employment was interrupted due to the COVID pandemic. During this time, Andrew has attended his lessons in school and online. He worked on his independence and life skills as well as keeping his numeracy and literacy skills active.
When Andrew first joined the programme he was originally matched to a sports company who unfortunately, due to the pandemic and subsequent national lockdowns, were unable to continue with his work placement. He later took part in a taster day with the Enfield Council caretaking team. He was partnered up with a previous intern who had successfully complete the programme the year before and was able to learn more about the role from someone who had lived experience of a supported internship. Andrew really enjoyed the job and thrived in his new placement.
Since then, Andrew has changed teams within the caretaking department and now works responding to caretaking emergencies, general mobile caretaking duties and delivery of equipment, etc. to centres around the borough.
Andrew plans to get his driving license in the future so he is more independent and so he can add further value to the caretaking department.
